Hepatitis A is a liver infection caused by the hepatitis A virus. It is very contagious and spreads through consumption of contaminated food or water.

What is Hepatitis A?

Hepatitis A is a highly contagious liver infection, caused by the hepatitis A virus. Its severity can range from a mild to severe illness which can last from few weeks to months.

How is Hepatitis A transmitted?

The disease is usually transmitted by faecal-oral route when someone ingests contaminated food and water.

What are the symptoms of Hepatitis A?

Not everyone who is infected has symptoms. Symptoms (if developed) usually may appear within 2 to 4 weeks after infection.

Symptoms can include, but are not limited to-

  • Fever
  • Vomiting
  • Grey-coloured stools
  • Fatigue
  • Abdominal pain
  • Joint pain
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea
  • Jaundice
  • Dark urine
